San Marcos spotlight

Rockin' For San Marcos Senior Center, a daylong celebration of the facility's programs and services, is coming up on Thursday.

Festivities will begin with a one-mile walk around the center and a continental breakfast at 9 a.m. There will be a free health resource fair from 9 to 11 a.m., picnic lunch at 11:30 a.m. and a dance and ice cream social from 2 to 4 p.m.

Lunch is $3, and admission to the dance is $3.

Jazz concert: Night Blooming Jazzmen will perform at 2 p.m. today at the Lakeside Pavilion, 1035 La Bonita Drive, San Marcos. Tickets: $10. (760) 591-4231.

Earthquake safety: The County Office of Emergency Services will offer a free workshop on earthquake safety from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at San Marcos branch library, 2 Civic Center Drive, San Marcos. Information: www.sdcounty.ca.gov/oes.

Palomar College classes: A four-week intersession will begin May 22. Classes will be offered in American Indian studies, business, cinema, health, education, sociology and other subjects. Summer classes will begin June 19 at the San Marcos campus and other centers. To access class schedules, to apply for admission or to register, go to www.palomar.edu.

Fashion week: Palomar College's fashion program will host a trip to New York city June 10-17. The goal is to immerse students in the fashion industry and to provide information on internship and career opportunities. Cost is $1,999, including airfare, hotel and daily breakfast.
